The 10.1 adds an IR blaster for home theater controls and external access to the MicroSD card. The sides are also just like the Note III. We'll have to save the benchmarks for US hardware for now, too. It's worth mentioning that this launch is for the international Note III, so we didn't get to see actual US hardware or carrier branding at this event. If the past is any indication, the LTE variants will use a Snapdragon processor, while the international versions will use a Samsung "octo core" SoC. Samsung doesn't specify the manufacturer. The original Note 10.1 had on-screen buttons, which worked flawlessly and made sense with the S Pen. While it isn't as dense of something like an HTC One, it still looks great.Ī big improvement on the Note III is the capacitive Menu and Back buttons, which now work with the S Pen. The Note III now has a 5.7 inch, 1080p Super AMOLED (non-pentile) screen. Overall, it's pretty similar to the S 4: impressively thin and solid feeling, but greasy.įor the second year in a row, Samsung has managed to increase the screen size without making the phone any wider. ![]() The good news is that the plastic doesn't have an inch of give to it-it's extremely hard. Samsung has been lagging behind its competitors in the materials department for the last few product cycles, and while this looks better, it doesn't really feel better. I was hoping for something similar to Samsung's T-Mobile Galaxy S II soft-touch faux-leather, but this is just textured plastic. The biggest change you'll notice is that the back on the Note III has a stitched leather look, which Samsung says will give it a "warm, textured touch." It looks really nice, but it's actually a hard, leather-patterned plastic that felt pretty greasy.
